Presbyopia: Accommodation


The human eye can change its focus from distant objects to near objects, through a process called Accommodation. As light from near objects passes through the eye, it comes to a focus behind the retina. In order for this light to focus on the retina, accommodation occurs.

During accommodation, the Ciliary muscle contracts, causing the lens to thicken. This refocuses light back onto the retina. Like the auto-focus on a camera, accommodation is so fast and automatic that we're not even aware that it's happening.


El ojo humano puede cambiar su enfoque de objetos distantes a objetos cercanos, a través de un proceso llamado Acomodación. A medida que la luz de los objetos cercanos pasa a través del ojo, se enfoca detrás de la retina. Para que esta luz se enfoque en la retina, se produce la acomodación.

Durante la acomodación, el músculo ciliar se contrae y hace que el lente se espese. Esto reenfoca la luz en la retina. Al igual que el enfoque automático en una cámara, la acomodación ocular es tan rápida y automática que ni siquiera somos conscientes de que está sucediendo.
