Allegretto Laser
The WaveLight Allegretto laser offers a number of advantages over other systems. It is the newest system on the market, and the only one to incorporate Wavefront Technology from its inception. The advantages for our patients are: superb quality of vision, especially at night; and very low chance of enhancement.
The Wavefront Optimized treatment strategy can be thought of as a way to eliminate the refractive error (nearsightedness, for example) and yet to leave the cornea it’s natural shape. Older lasers created a small, abrupt treatment zone that was associated with lower quality of vision and especially night vision problems. While not completely eliminating the risk of glare and halos, the Allegretto demonstrated the majority of patients in the FDA trials IMPROVING their night vision vs. glasses or contacts.
The outstanding accuracy of the Allegretto means patients with the most common prescriptions have only about a 1% chance of needing an enhancement. National averages, and indeed our results with other lasers, are considerably higher.
The Allegretto utilizes an excellent active tracking system. This means the laser locks on to your eye, and any eye movements are “absorbed.” The laser continues to fire unless the eye moves to an extreme position. Most other laser tracking systems are passive, meaning the laser does not move with the eye. Also, the Allegretto does not require the patient to be dilated.
The other feature we like is the speed of the Allegretto, the fastest laser on the market. This means most treatments are over in a matter of seconds, increasing patient comfort and reducing anxiety.
