Actual LaserVue Patients’ Eye Surgery Results
We know having surgery is a big decision and you want a trusted surgeon with the most experience to work with you from beginning to end. Hear from some of our actual patients, who made the very same decisions you are making now and how they evaluated the different choices that were available to them.
“Although my prescription wasn’t extremely strong, wearing glasses and contacts was just a day-to-day hassle I didn’t want to deal with. The eye surgery results I got from LASIK surgery at LaserVue feels great—like freedom, because I don’t have to worry about wearing contacts or glasses.
I started wearing glasses in college, so even though it wasn’t a lifelong concern, my prescription was slowly getting worse. Glasses became a real hassle during work and at home—especially when I tried to wash my face or when my fiancé (now husband) and I were out on weekends. One grain of sand in your contact feels like there’s an elephant in your eye! I love to work out too, and glasses kept getting in the way. I go to a spinning class at least four to five times a week—and it was frustrating to continuously push my glasses up my nose when they slid down.
When my husband proposed, I knew we’d be starting a family. I obviously needed to simplify my life. So the thought of not having glasses was very appealing. My assistant referred me to Dr. Brock Magruder at LaserVue. She had LASIK with Dr. Magruder 15 years ago and she still doesn’t need glasses. I did a little research, and then made an appointment with Dr. Magruder to get some more information. I felt very comfortable and welcome. Everyone there was very professional and accommodating.
What sealed the deal was the amount of LASIK surgeries Dr. Magruder had done.
It was a number like 20,000. Impressive. I’m a big deal shopper, I love getting shoes and clothes deals, but when it comes to my eyes, I didn’t want to make a deal for my eyesight. I wasn’t going to shop around for my eyes. I wanted his experience. But with my insurance and flexible spending I ended up getting a great deal, and a great doctor. On the day of my LASIK eye surgery, I wasn’t too nervous. I got to have my fiancé in the room to make me feel comfortable. I was awake and could feel a little pressure on my eye, but no pain at all. It lasted about 15 minutes and then I went home, put in drops, took a nap and woke up to see the clock across the room!
It was wonderful. No issues. No headaches. No need to make another appointment. Dr. Magruder even called me the day after my surgery to make sure I was feeling ok. The people at LaserVue who make you feel comfortable make all the difference. Also, I had confidence in my surgeon. Now I have freedom from worrying about glasses and contacts!
It’s just nice to have great vision.

“As an OBGYN, it’s important to me—and my patients—that I have great eyesight while in the operating room. With the eye surgery results I got from LaserVue, I don’t have to worry about how my contacts or glasses will affect my work.
I started researching vision correction options a few years go because when I worked a lot of night shifts delivering babies, my contacts would get irritated and my eyes would itch and tear. That’s not good when you’re concentrating during surgery. In fact, the nurses often asked why my eyes were so red during the night. Even at home, I had issues with my contacts, they were such a nuisance and I would easily lose them when in the pool with my son.
I started asking for references from friends and family members who had had surgery in the past, and I spoke with a few nurses and doctors that I worked with. They recommended Dr. Magruder, and others who knew him spoke highly of his practice. I liked his level of experience, that he owned his own practice—so who I met in the initial consultation would be who performed the surgery—and that he had corrective eye surgery himself.
I thought that if he believes in the technology enough to get surgery, I could trust him with my vision.
At my initial consultation with Dr. Magruder, I had a full exam, and then Dr. Magruder sat down with me to review the results, answer any questions I had and prescribe a treatment option for my condition. At first I was getting PRK in one eye and LASIK in both. Then, when he re-examined my eyes on the day of surgery, he recommended PRK for both eyes. He sat down with me for an hour to explain why he changed his recommendation and told me I didn’t have to go through with it if I wasn’t comfortable. I appreciated his honesty, and his explanation actually made me more comfortable. He even answered my wife’s questions. So, I decided to go through with it that day.
It was very obvious that his objective was to do the right thing for the patient to get lasting results. He did an excellent job explaining the situation and he didn’t pressure me into having surgery.
Next, I took some valium to relax my muscles and mind, but I was confident Dr. Magruder had explained everything and I knew exactly what to expect. As a physician, I was impressed with bed side manner techniques. He prompted me to think of two jokes prior to surgery, one for each eye, and by the time I was finished telling my jokes, it was done!
My recovery was completely uncomplicated. I went home after surgery and slept and early the next morning, my vision was perfect. It got a little fuzzy as it healed—something Dr. Magruder said would happen. Then within a few days, I was back to doing all my daily activities like normal, but I definitely wasn’t going back into the delivery room until my vision was 20/20. I was fully recovered in about 10 days—with perfect vision!
I was impressed with the time and energy that Dr. Magruder spent with me.
He called me the day after surgery to make sure I was ok. I think it was a Saturday—and he personally called, not a nurse. I actually started doing that in my own practice. I call people the day after to make sure they are doing ok.
With 20/20 vision, I have more confidence in the delivery room on night shifts, and I don’t think twice about playing in the pool with my son. Vision correction was one of the best decisions I’ve made and my experience with Dr. Magruder was flexible and professional.

“To say my vision was bad—what an understatement. I have had terrible eyesight my whole life and by the time I contacted Dr. Magruder, I had a -20.5 prescription. Only a single company made contacts to fit my prescription and they weren’t very reliable. I saw my first ophthalmologist 15 years ago, and he told me there was nothing he could do.
About 10 years later, I heard about LASIK surgery and thought it may be able to help me.
My husband is in the military, and we were stationed close to Atlanta, Georgia at the time, so I made an appointment at Emory University because they had some of the nation’s best doctors. My doctor told me to wait about five years before getting surgery because the technology was so new.
After five more years of waiting, I immediately started searching for a new eye surgeon (by this time we had moved from Atlanta to Brevard County). I wanted the surgeon who had the most experience in Central Florida, and I was willing to drive to see them. When I found out about Dr. Magruder and about his background at Emory, I booked the appointment immediately.
On my first visit, I was impressed with how honest Dr. Magruder was.
He didn’t try to overpromise, but he said he’d like to get my vision as close to 20/20 as possible. I just wanted to have normal vision that I could correct with cheaper contacts—but Dr. Magruder was determined to get me the best results. I had looked at so many options over the years, so it was refreshing to know someone wanted my vision to be as perfect as I wanted it to be…MORE perfect, actually.
Dr. Magruder explained that I would need Implanted Contact Lenses as the first step, but then he could evaluate the results and prescribe a second surgery—probably LASIK or PRK—after my eyes healed. He explained exactly what to expect, answered all my questions completely and was extremely honest about the results I would have. He also sent me to a retinal specialist just to be sure surgery would go okay. I felt very comfortable and trusted his recommendations completely.
He really took care of me before, during and
after the fact.
I had ICL surgery in November and there were no problems at all. It was basically painless. It only felt like I had an eyelash in my eye. When I woke up the next morning, the only thing I could tell that was different was that I could see better. I had a -2.75 prescription! I was amazed!
When I returned to Dr. Magruder, he examined my eyes and the healing process. He told me he could improve my eyesight even more! I was again amazed. He prescribed PRK and set the surgery for June.
Between surgeries, I returned to the office for regular checkups to be sure everything was progressing nicely. The staff was fabulous in the office. I can talk to everyone and catch up with what’s going on in their lives and they all go above and beyond to make me feel at home. My experience was way better than I anticipated.
Dr. Harris and Dr. Boodrum, who I saw between appointments with Dr. Magruder, are both fantastic and answered any questions I had. They checked and re-checked my eyes and made me feel confident in my recovery. I was most impressed though, when Dr. Magruder would drop in to check on my progress—even what I wasn’t scheduled to see him.
In June, I had PRK surgery. It was over in 10 minutes. I was in and out of there so fast! The recovery time was a little longer for PRK and at first my eyes felt irritated—which Dr. Magruder had told me to expect. I came home and slept the rest of the day and when I woke up, my vision was already getting better. I was back to my normal activities in a few days. In fact, my husband and I moved that weekend, so I wasn’t out of commission, but I was a little uncomfortable for a few days.
Surgery was totally worth it. I cannot believe how well I can see now. Amazing.
When I Wake up in the morning, I still can’t believe that I can see the alarm clock—or that I can see anything! I used to have to go to bed and put my glasses in the exact same spot so I could find them when I woke up, or when I got tired, I always had to remember to take my contacts out. I never have to worry about it again. My vision is now 20/15. Wow! I am so grateful to the LaserVue staff and to Dr. Magruder. They have literally changed my life now that I can see clearly.
Like I said before…Amazing.

As the Pilot for a major airline, my vision is one of the most important aspects of my job and career. The flight deck is a demanding environment, where success depends on my ability to perform at my very best, so the decision to consider LASIK eye surgery for vision correction was not taken lightly.
I wore glasses for my distant vision for about five years before I decided to explore my options with LASIK surgery. I was tired of dealing with glasses while I was working. I travel so often, and glasses and contacts were a huge hassle to pack and find during the flight and after the flight. And when I flew long hours, my eyes would get dry and irritated. I needed to get rid of glasses and contacts.
When I finally made the decision to pursue LASIK eye surgery, I obviously wanted the very best surgeon and facility I could find. I spent a great deal of time determining the best options I had available to me. After an enormous amount of research, I chose Dr. Magruder and LaserVue. My eyesight is such an imperative part of my career, so I wanted to be absolutely sure I felt comfortable with the doctor I chose to do the surgery. Dr. Magruder’s extensive experience and the numerous recommendations I got for LaserVue were huge factors in making my final choice.
It was after my very first appointment at LaserVue that I knew I had made the right decision. From the very first day, I felt confident that my individual needs were top priority, and that everyone, including the nurses and staff, genuinely wanted to make sure I received the very best treatment. It was a big relief. The staff was friendly, the technicians were thorough, and most importantly, Dr. Magruder answered all of my questions.
After my eyes were tested, Dr. Magruder and I sat down to discuss his recommendations. The procedure we decided on was LASIK laser surgery on one eye only to improve my distant vision. He explained it creates monovision (one of my eyes would be used for distant vision, the other eye to see things close up). After surgery, I wouldn’t need glasses or contacts anymore.
By the time I left, I felt completely prepared and informed. Dr. Magruder even gave me contact lenses to wear for a week that would simulate what my vision would be like after surgery.
LaserVue’s careful attention gave me the confidence I needed to take the plunge with no doubts in my mind.
On the day of surgery I was pretty nervous. I already had a vacation scheduled with a few of my friends. I hope I would recover fast and be ready to enjoy my trip.
After surgery, I adjusted to monovision in a very short time and am still totally happy and satisfied with the results. My recovery time was minimal (less than 24 hours), with vision results of 20/20 for distant vision almost immediately! Not only was I able to keep my vacation plans, but I had a great time!
My experience with LaserVue was positive in every aspect, from my very first appointment until my final follow-up visit. The most unique part of LaserVue for me is their true concern for my needs and well-being.
Traveling is so much easier without glasses and contacts! I don’t have to worry about where I packed my glasses, or how I could easily access them in my luggage when I needed them. Since surgery I have traveled for both work and for vacation to places like Costa Rica, Tennessee’s mountains and on my annual bike trip up the East Coast. No glasses. No problems.
I would recommend to anyone who is considering LASIK eye surgery as an option to do their research, and let LaserVue help them consider their options and achieve their vision goals.
